Overview

Twisted Pair Routers (10981) are designed for efficient use of LonWorks?networks, seamlessly transporting the LonTalk?protocol, and fully compatible with Echelon's?OEM ones.

To support the specific wire interconnects required for the application, the router has two network ports with one LonWorks transceiver each, different transceiver options are available, including TPT/XF-78, TPT/XF-1250 and FTT-10A, for both sides largely independent from each other.

By use of appropriate tools such as LonBuilder, LonMaker, Router Interface File Maker V1.7, etc., it could be configurable as repeater, bridge, configured router, or learning router.

• Operating Modes

  Mode	Function	Utility
  Repeater	A logical repeater is the simplest operation mode. Irrespective of source, domain, or destination, signals are forwarded. Any valid LonTalk message received will be forwarded. Different media and message transfer types can be used.	Extending the physical network complexity, extension and number of nodes. In contrast to physical repeaters, several logical repeaters can be connected in series in the network.
  Bridge	Forwards valid LonTalk messages, if the domain IO of the sender corresponds with one of the router’s domains. The message destination has no influence.	Spanning one or two domains.
  Configured Router	Forwards valid LonTalk messages received on either domains. Maintains a forwarding table for each domain on each side. Each of those tables contains a flag for each of 255 subnets and 255 groups. These flags indicate whether or not a message will be forwarded based on the destination subnet or group address of the message.	Specific separation of network traffic, e.g. in case of heavy loaded networks and in networks with loop topology
  Learning Router	A special type of a configured router. Uses forwarding tables like a configured router does, but instead of being configured with a network management tool the subnet forwarding tables are updated automatically by a learning process. After reset all subnet forwarding tables are configured to forward any valid message that corresponds to one of the router ‘s domain. Each new source subnet ID of a message with subnet addressing will be checked to clear the corresponding flag in the subnet forwarding table of the other router side. The learning process restarts after a reset because the forwarding tables are stored in the RAM. The group forwarding tables are configured to always forward messages wit group destination address.	Simplify the installation by install itself.

  Caution: 

  Please be careful when reconfiguring. In case of incorrect parameters, the router may get into an undefined state, even not being able to return to proper operation.
